G.S.D. SPECIALTY SHOW, IN CONJUNCTION WITHINDIA SIEGER SHOW AND THE FCI-AKU-KCISHOWS OF JANUARY 8 & 9, 2000

General Comments: The over-all quality shows that India has made good progress in both importing and breeding. The very promising puppies and admirable Bred-In-India-Classes are indicative of breeders being on the right track. They should be vigilant, and eliminate dogs with poor pasterns and loose ligaments. In time, they should also reduce the numbers of overly curved top lines and low withers. Congratulations on good efforts. May I suggest in the future that they have classes strictly segregated as to age? That would be in line with WUSV judging and ranking methods. Furthermore, divide the over-24-month classes into Titled (Working titles, SchH or HGH), and Untitled classes such as Bred In India (now over 24 mo. as well as younger, but separate), etc.

If you see p1, that means promising, 1st place in puppy classes (not necessarily the first premolar). The LP means less than promising, and VP is very promising. The descending order in puppies is: Very promising, promising, then Less promising. The descending order in other classes is V (excellent), SG (very good), and G (good). Then apply the ranking numbers in each category.

MINOR ( 6 – 9 MONTHS ) PUPPY DOGS:

( #561 Sansburg Karly ): p1
Very substantial (good bone & size), good pasterns, well proportioned. Loose in elbows. Croup could be a little flatter and longer, otherwise a very good over line. Upper arm could be a little longer, masculine, True going away. Very good rear angulation. Front reach could be a little freer. Good drive, firm back.

PUPPY DOGS (9 – 12 MONTHS) :

( #518 Quarz v. Murrtal ) VP – 1
Large pup, slightly cowhocked in motion, true coming in and standing in front, medium eye color. Bright coat pigment. Very good front & rear angulation. Well laid-on croup of good length. Good top line and underline, needs to develop more confidence, which I forgave only because of his youth.

Very good reach and drive; runs with a slightly curved back, and could be a little firmer over the loin.

( # 577 Quant of Dogmatix ) VP – 2
Large pup Loose in hocks; stands slightly east – west, medium eye color, good pigment in coat. Good front & rear angulation. Feet & pasterns should be tighter. Incisors not perfectly aligned. High withers, normal reach, good drive, firm except for the hocks.

( #485 Scotch ) VP – 3
Very good proportions & over line normal front angulation, very good rear angulation. Expressive. Cowhocked. True coming & going. Stands straight. Good reach & Drive; a bit loose in back ligaments.

( #531 Amboss v. Ducati ) VP – 4
Large, plush, bordering on long-coat, but I was not sure of whether I was to follow the SV or the KC Standard in this regard, so he retained the rating he would have had in Britain. I was told later that the WUSV Standard should have been used, in which case he would have to be placed at or near the end. Severely cowhocked. Very good bone. Stands straight in front, very good feet & pasterns, medium eye color, good pigment good over line. Front action could be just a little smoother, but reach is normal & drive is good. Toward the end be started running a little flat in withers. Very good front & rear angulation. Firm back. Croup could be a little longer and less steep.

( #539 Paigah’s Nye ) P – 1
Large, good bone true coming & going. Upper arm could be longer. Very good rear angulation. Stands slightly east west. Croup could be longer and flatter. Runs a bit low in withers. Not as smooth in action & not under control.

Loose in hocks, true coming in. Needs to develop in forechest. Could be better in front angulation. Somewhat curved top line, Good head, dark eyes, croup a bit steep and could be longer. Very good rear angulation Good feet. Too much curl to tail when moving. Loose in croup/loin ligaments. Reach & drive should be better.

( #540 G. Don ) LP – 2
Small steep upper arm. Mores wide in front, ok in rear, steep croup, good underline. Long in midpiece. Out of condition. Runs low in withers & high in mid-back. a bit loose.

Medium eye color, good coat color, well-proportioned, high withers with good over line. Somewhat stretched, good upper arm & croup. Good reach, better drive, firm back. Double handling spoiled his chances to look his best. Assistants or owners need to learn how to double-handle properly.

Large, well-pigmented, dry & firm, Good upper arm & croup. Very good overline & angles front & rear, stands well in front. High withers but still with very good reach & excellent drive. Strong back. Masculine. True coming & going. Months later, I read Messler’s same description of him written at the Sieger Show in Karlsruhe (where he only got an Insufficient because of being out of condition), with this addition: In the extended gaiting phase it is evident that there should be still more effective freshness. The dog has not developed further since the Junghund class as should be expected, and should be worked more in competition in the Gebrauchshundklasse on the to increase stamina and strength. Apparently the sellers and present owners have corrected that problem. He was also Sieger under Reinhardt Meyer the previous day.
